This guide is designed to guide you through using DataTurbine for the first time. Data Turbine is a powerful tool with lots of options and possible configurations that are discussed in subsequent sections. This It will show you how to

  1. Run DataTurbine on a local system
  2. Load some generated data
  3. View it in Real Time Data Viewer

The Proccess

  1. First lets start a server that will hold the data
    1. Verify Java is installed on your system.
    2. Download the DataTurbine Core (rbnb.jar) it will be at the heart of every DataTurbine deployment.
    3. Open up a terminal and launch rbnb.jar by typing:
      java -jar PATH_TO_THE_FILE/rbnb.jar

      Windows example: java -jar “C:\Users\Name\Desktop\rbnb.jar”
      Mac/Linux example: java -jar /Users/root/Desktop/rbnb.jar

    4. The DataTurbine server should now be started.
    5. Leave this terminal window open untill you are ready to close DataTurbine.
  2. Now lets load some data into DataTurbine
    1. Download the Real Time Data Viewer (RDV) and the Test Data Generator
    2. Run the Test Data Generator jar.
      Note: This can be done on most systems by double clicking the file or by running it in a new terminal window
    3. The terminal running DataTurbine should show that data has been added.

  3. Finally lets view the data
    1. Run rdv.jar, this should open a new window.
    2. Select File>Connect from the Menu
      Host: localhost
      Port: 3333
    3. On the left hand side of RDV there should be a document tree labeled Channels, double click on Test.
    4. Now double click on Channel 1. You are now interacting with data stored in DataTurbine.
    5. Try dragging Channel 2 and Channel 3 onto the same panel. The graphs should now be overlaid.
