Installing Java

First Check to See if Java is Installed!

Java is usually already installed on most systems. Before atempting to install java, check to see if it is already installed.

You can either check it online.

or

Open the terminal and type:

java -version

The terminal should now read “Java version 1.6“. If this is the case you are done!

Installing Java

Download the Java Run Time Environment

  1. Download Java and go through the onscreen install procedure.
  2. Verify that java is installed by falling the steps above .
  3. Note: If you get the error, ‘Java’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. And you have gone through the installation process , then Java may not be in your system path.
    1. Add the java bin directory to your path
      Windows ex: You would append to the end of the value something like :

       ;”c:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin”
    2. Restart your computer.
    3. Verify that Java is now installed
